Home Automation: GreenWave and Philips Hue

Time:2013-03-07 18:11:25   Author:TinyDeal

Have you ever had a feeling of regret when realizing that you had forgotten to turn out the lights in the entryway of your house while you were out? Do you want to just reach for your iPhone and shut the lights off remotely? This is the joy of home automation.

Though home automation systems are often proprietary and can be quite expensive, they are still hot in home lighting market.

Philips entered this market (albeit in a limited fashion) with their Hue lighting system. Philips sent out a review sample of their new Hue lighting system, a set of three Hue lights with the Hue Bridge that allows you to remotely control the lights. Besides being able to turn the lights on or off, the big claim to fame of the Hue is that you can set the lights to a variety of colors, or you can even program them to cycle through colors. The Philips Hue is only appears to be sold through the Apple Store as an “App-Enabled Accessory”, but Android is also supported.

GreenWave Reality, a company with offices in Denmark, southern California and Singapore has also launched its energy-efficient LEDs for illumination. They’re also armed with an internet-enabled chip that can be controlled wirelessly. To change the mood around the house, you can use GreenWave’s apps for iPhones and Android phones as well as a familiar remote control that’s included. Installation of the GreenWave Reality system is as easy as, well, screwing in a light bulb.
