Strategy Analytics' segmentation analysis based on attitudes and behaviors of 2,285 consumers in the US identified those most interested in and willing to pay for smart home services and capabilities. Actually smart home concept is so hot that maybe someday we can make our house as smart as our car and even our phone.

Cees Links, who created and develop Wi-Fi techonology a dozen years ago, is now developing the next generation wireless home network - ZigBee. Similar to Wi-Fi, it is designed to connect together all the various HVAC, energy, security, home health, etc. devices in the home and let the homeowner monitor and control them over the web and even through their devices.

In addition to the above, researchers are already testing new technologies that should make aging easier than ever. Alex Mihailidis, an associate professor who researches biomedical engineering at the University of Toronto, is developing a number of innovative technologies to help older adults safely retain their independence. One of his research technologies is sensors in a smart home system, such as a small webcam, to monitor how adults with Alzheimer's disease complete self-care activities by observing them as they wash their hands, brush their teeth or make a cup of tea.
