Online Clothing Sales Starting to Burst

Time:2013-03-04 18:19:23   Author:TinyDeal

For most of the past time, we were more willing to spend hours trawling through piles of second-hand clothes to find the perfect item, that’s why online shopping for clothes and shoes had lagged behind other products. But the estimate indicates that the relative volume of online clothing sales now matches the size of all ecommerce as a proportion of total US retail spending. Is it hard to believe? Just read through the following news concerning this issue, and then you will understand.

Americans now buy more than 10 per cent of their clothes online, according to Moody’s, a sign that a substantial number of shoppers have overcome an aversion to buying items they cannot touch or try on.

“Russia Clothing B2C E-Commerce Report 2013”, a study covering online shopping regarding clothing in Russia shows a marked increase in internet purchases, with clothing sales showing the greatest growth. Nearly half of online shoppers in Russia purchased clothing, shoes and accessories over the Internet in 2012, double the 2011 figure.

With the explosion of online shopping, which boasts an annual revenue of $11.3 billion in Australia, vintage clothes have found their way into the virtual world. One of the newest additions to the online shopping landscape in Australia, ASOS, has started letting individuals and vintage boutiques sell pre-loved clothing online. A 10 per cent to 20 per cent commission goes to the ASOS website, called ''Marketplace''.
